If you’re not a formula 1 fan or into racing at all it doesn’t matter. This documentary did a great job of keeping it interesting even for the ppl who dont care too much about the topic. 

I did tear up a bit throughout the film. I didn’t know who he is or what he was about before I watched, but his story was really inspiring.Yeah I cried for him at the end but when the film was over I didnt really have much sympathy for him.

He was born rich and died rich. This dude had all the privilege in the world but decided to become a race car driver for the rest of his life.He had all the bitches and traveled all over the world.  Really dont feel bad that he died doing a dangerous sport.

The Savages

8/10 = Must See / Worth Owning

Yes!! Another one for female writers/directors. Tamara Jenkins did a really awesome job on this film. Exceeded all my expectations of the film. 

I have to be honest though, I really wasn’t rooting for it to begin with. My thoughts were, if it’s so good, why am I just now hearing about it. Any doubt I may have had was stricken by the composition of the opening scene

Really enjoyed the dark humor in the film, and even cried a little towards the end. Not that it was especially moving, but because I could relate to the situation having sat by my grandmothers bed when she was sick.

I can see this being an 8 or 9/10 for hipsters, hippies, and people in dysfunctional families like this. But after watching two really depressing movies I wasn’t really here for a lot of the humor lmaaoo.  Too much middle class whining for my taste, but it was really awesome none the less. It’s not knee slapping funny but more “my white friends would sooooo slap their knees at this ” funny. A great pick me up and something to watch with friends or on date night. If you liked Crazy, Stupid, Love , you’ll love this movie.

Thoughts while watching: Who would cheat on Rasheeda Jones? Zooey Deschanel that’s who! Who would dump Joseph Gordon Levitt? … that fucking skank Zooey Deschanel

I fucking hate Zoey Deschenal , but not as much as I hate Natalie Portman. I can’t believe I’m saying this but Zoey is actually a better actress than Natalie Portman and didn’t take much away from the film.With that said, she usually does well in roles where all she does is play herself. A talentless confused comedian/actress trying to make it in the biz. Natalie doesn’t know who she is as a person so it’s hard for her to act on and off the stage. You can shoot me for that if you want. I’m willing to die for what I believe in. DEATH TO TALENTLESS OVERRATED ACTRESSES

So, I just finished watching the documentary Eames: The Architect and the Painter. The only thing that bothered me about it was that James Franco was the narrator. Honestly, he does not have the voice for narration. Despite that, I enjoyed the movie. It was interesting seeing each Charles and Ray’s creative processes. I found myself looking at the things Ray would do and saying “I do that all the time!”. After watching this documentary, it is easy to see their influence in modern design. I think 75% of IKEA products are inspired by their designs (or they’re copies).

I WANT TO BE THEM!! I want to find and artsy architect ( or musician named Chazwick Bundick, either one will do) and build a design empire with them!!! 

Really messed up about how he was cheating on her though. Charles was married with a baby when he met Ray.The way you get them is the way you lose them girl.

Also cool to know they studied at cranbrook which is really close to my house

6/10 = Decent and Not Unhappy to Have Viewed / May Recommend to Select People

Wasn’t better than I Saw the Devil  . I don’t think there’s really much more to say. It just wasn’t as good and it had almost the same premise except it was cheesier. Like taking I Saw the Devil (korean film) and placing it in Japanese culture. meh 

Apparently it’s based on a true story. I can’t see this being a true story without making worldwide news but okay. There are a lot of sick fucks out there that don’t make the news so I’ll give em that. 

I liked it though because I can’t get enough of films like this. I would recommend it to people who like films like Old boy , A Tale of Two Sisters and The Chaser (all korean)<— If you haven’t seen these WTF is wrong with you !!

edit: Oh and not showing the opening title until after the first act… Im a fan of that!!! *takes notes for my future film* It’s like you set up the fim introduce the characters and then hit em with “and now youre about to watch this incredibly fucked up tale I’d like to call COLD FISH! . I wish Kill Bill would have don that after the fight with Black Mamba and  Vernita Green

Context under which I watched: rented from the library, research for a school project

My short and vague review: This was depressing and inspiring all at once. The way children see the world is absolutely amazing and this really showed that. I was just so amazed at all of their photography! The construction of this documentary was kind of sporadic though… there wasn’t much flow. I’d really recommend this though to pretty much everyone I know through Tumblr. 

I shed a tear towards the end. These types of films really tug at the heart strings. I’m naming my son after Avijit on the real. It’s sad that some of them didn’t get out and will continue the cycle their parents are on. 

7/10 is my rating for this

Mississippi Damned

7/10= Worth Seeing / Recommend to Others

Just finished watching this movie. I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly moving film but it’s damn sure captivating. Even though it’s two hours long you can’t seem to turn your eyes away. It really is like watching a car wreck, but in a good way. 

This film is what I think Tyler Perry tries so hard to do.If I were to take Tyler Perry’s body of work as an auteur I’d conclude that he’d been working his whole life to make this film. Too bad it was done by a better more deserving black director, Tina Mabry .

This film makes Precious seem like amateur work. It really does put it to shame . It almost reminds me of that 30 Rock skit with Tracy Jordan, ‘Hard to Watch’. So many fucked up things happen in this film. It makes me wonder if the director actually lived these things or she just threw everybody’s family secret into a gumbo and made it into this film. When did they all deal with the issues? How can you just keep on living  like it all never happened? Really look out for Tina Mabry . She’s a budding talent and I wish we had more black writers and directors like her.

I’m not really spoiling anything when I say this because it’s not even the most fucked up part of the film. But what would possess this nicca to molest that child while his wife was sleeping in the next room. You are a nasty dirty ass nigga smh

Film reminded me of Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein (shit film , not worth viewing) . Pretty effed up tbh

Watching this documentary on artist Beverly McIver and how her life has changed since she decided to take care of her mentally disabled sister. She talks a bit about the politics of race in the south and also in her paintings. Really interesting.

Rating 5/10 = Likely had Some Positives but Wasn’t a Good Film

WTF did I just watch? Absolutely cringe worthy

The son was cute though. Some great acting by him. Disturbed by the way a cop who should have respect and authority allows his son to call him by his first name. 

Rating: 2/10 = Offensively Bad Film / Surely Angered Me to have Viewed

I can’t believe the same director who made Billy Elliot made this film. There were some heart tugging scenes during parts where they discussed 9/11 but other than that I just couldn’t get with it. 

This kid was a pretentious brat before his father died and was still a pretentious brat afterwards. His entire character annoyed me . I feel bad that he went through a tragedy like that but it’s hard to sympathise with weird kids like this. Part of that has to do with the fact that the film leads you to believe that this kid is on a mission to uncover a mystery but he never really finds anything except closure.  

It was way too long and had no real purpose. Hated this film

9/10 = Great Film / Likely Masterpiece

While I’m on Isabelle Huppart, watch this film. You’ll see how unoriginal Black Swan is.  

Private Property 

Rating: 7/10 = Worth Seeing / Recommend to Others

Isabelle Huppert. Nuff said.  She’s like the french Tilda Swinton. 

Getting into this film though, there are several moments throughout where you just want to slap the shit out this womans son through the screen.

I’ve never seen that kind of blatant disrespect before in my life. It was so bad I wanted to call my mama and haver cuss ME out just so I’d never think abt saying the things this young man said to his mother. You are a grown ass man, why the fuck do you think it’s your right to tell your mother how she should live her life. You still live under HER roof!

Towards the end you begin to realize that it was the father seeding lies into his son about their mother , but that sort of behavior should have been nipped in the bud the FIRST time it happened. Everyone’s to blame in this film. Truly a case of arrested development all the way around

Rating: 9/10 = Great Film / Likely Masterpiece

Completely blown away by this film. It’s intense, it’s thrilling and it’s thoroughly fucked up. Any 24 fans will know the gut wrenching, heart pounding intensity I’m referring to. I went through soooooo many emotions watching this film. I don’t want to say much without giving it away. Just an overall great film.
